Hello there Salt Lake City, Amherst, Baltimore, Miami, Cape Cod, Brookline, Sacramento, Providence, New Orleans, Raleigh and Durham and Chapel Hill and lots of other places! You guys tweeted, called and emailed your local theaters, asking them to book Sleepwalk with Me and it worked. It arrives this weekend. Find your local theater (and buy tickets online) here.
Winner of an audience award at Sundance, Sleepwalk with Me gets huge laughs, it’s heartfelt, and, like any comedy, it’s more fun to see in a theater full of people. Come on out!
I’ve been waiting for this weekend for months. This is the weekend that our film Sleepwalk with Me opens around the country, in over 25 cities. We had a record setting premiere weekend in New York last week, tons of sold out shows. A higher per screen average than The Avengers.
Though our main goal with the film, as I’ve said many times now, was to make a movie that feels like the best stories on the radio show. I’m proud that we managed that. The movie’s funny and heartfelt. It’s been a labor of love for everyone who worked on it.
Opening weekend is important if we want to stay in theaters so if you’re looking for a film this weekend, I hope you come see ours. Here’s the list of theaters where it’ll be, many of which have the links to buy tickets in advance. Birbiglia will be in person doing Q&As at the Nuart theater in Los Angeles, the Embarcadero in San Francisco and the Shattuck in Berkeley. I’ll be at the Music Box in Chicago Friday and Saturday and the Landmark E Street in Washington DC on Sunday and Monday. New York has added theaters around Manhattan and at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
I hope you come out!
PS: here’s a behind the scenes video featuring many of the comedians who are in the movie.

Thanks to all of you who came out for the opening weekend of Sleepwalk with Me in New York. We set a record!
The weekend box office was $68,801 at IFC Center. We are told that no first-time American director has ever earned as high a per-screen average. At least, if you don’t count animated films like Beauty and the Beast.
As a joke, Avengers director Joss Whedon declared war on our film a few weeks ago. But what started as a joke has now become deadly serious. The Avengers per screen average on its opening weekend: $47,698, considerably lower than ours. Thus we have done what Loki could not. We beat The Avengers. Of course, they were in 4,349 theaters with that average. We were in one.
This coming weekend, we open in over twenty cities. You can buy tickets online for many of them already. Get yours now because shows are selling out! And you can still ask your local theater to book Sleepwalk with Me. Like any comedy, it’s more fun to see in a theater, with a crowd.
Attention New York: Ticket sales are so strong that midnight shows have been added to the premiere weekend of Sleepwalk with Me in New York City! That’s this coming weekend, starting 11:59pm the night of Thursday August 23rd.
And anyone wearing pajamas to the Thursday midnight show gets free popcorn and soda. Ira Glass and Mike Birbiglia will be at the midnight shows and at all the shows this Friday and Saturday in New York doing Q&As. Tickets here.
The movie opens in 121 cities the weekend after that. Tickets are still available to shows August 31st and Sept 1st in Los Angeles (where Mike’ll be doing Q&As at each show) and Chicago (where Ira will be doing Q&As at each show).
These are going to be really fun shows — jampacked with people, Ira and Mike in person. We hope you come out.
We need your help with our movie and yes, if you haven’t heard, we made a movie! It’s a comedy called Sleepwalk With Me, written and directed by – and starring – Mike Birbiglia. I don’t say this lightly: it’s as good as anything we’ve ever done on our show. Except maybe funnier. The trailer is above.
We’re new to the movie business and we need YOUR help getting it into theaters. It premieres at the end of August and is currently booked in several cities. And with your help, it can show in more places. Go to this page to see where it’s screening and learn how you can request it at a theater near you.
Thanks, Ira Glass
